Freshers: Join Manchester Labour Students
There is no better time to get involved in politics than when you arrive at University, whether you have been involved in Labour politics before or not.
Joining Labour Students costs only £1 for the whole year, you also get membership of the Labour Party if want it and you've not already a member.
Great Events
Every year we hold some excellent events with Cabinet-level speakers and others. While we can't give anything away quite yet, we have some very good speakers lined up for this year.
We get involved with Labour Students nationally that gives us the opportunity to attend 3 weekends away each year, the first of which is Political Weekend.
We also have policy based events and discussions as well as social events including film screenings and evenings out.
Rewarding Campaigns
Manchester Labour Students campaign within our students' unions, NUS and of course with the Labour Party in Manchester and across the North West.
We do a lot of campaigning in the parliamentary seat of Manchester Withington for Lucy Powell, the Labour Parliamentary candidate who is a great friend of Manchester Labour Students.
Political Involvement
In addition to our affiliation to Labour Students nationally, we are also affiliated to the Manchester City Labour Party. We send 5 delegates to City Party meetings, 1 delegate to Manchester Young Labour and 2 to Labour Students National Council.
Manchester Labour Students offers the ability to talk politics in discussion and debate, listen to some of the best Labour figures of the day and campaign for Labour values on the ground as well.

The new university year is right around the corner and you might be thinking about what you’d like to get involved with this time around.
We really hope that you’ll consider rejoining Manchester Labour Students and getting involved in 2009/10.
Your membership of Manchester Labour Students last year was only valid for 2008/9 so with the new academic year your membership will lapse if you don’t rejoin.
This year will be one of the best for Labour Students, with a general election around the corner and plenty of events to attend there couldn't be more of an exciting time.
