Waldo accounts

Registering

  • All registered Union societies are entitled to an account on Waldo - the Union's server
  • If your society has not already been allocated a username and password please contact Kevin Patrick in the Student Advice Centre on the first floor of the Student Union building
  • You will be prompted to change your allocated password the first time you log in

Using your Waldo account

  • Part of your society registration is an email address: 'username@umu.man.ac.uk'
  • All societies with accounts have access to our web-based email service - see Webmail
  • Your web site will appear at 'http://www.umu.man.ac.uk/username' where 'username' is the shortened, lower case version of your society name.
  • Use your username and password for uploading files to your website via a ftp client. Enter server (host) details as waldo.umu.man.ac.uk
  • Your webpages go in the directory 'pubwww' which is automatically created when your account is set up
  • You can also host Society related domains on Waldo.
  • There are no restrictions on bandwidth or disc space usage. Although, if you wish to use a significant amount, we would appreciate being informed in advance where possible. Please don't fill the disc up without notice, give us time to obtain a bigger one.

While all Union societies are entitled to one account, Union Collectives (or similar) may request multiple accounts for different functions. The society or collective owning an account is responsible for all actions taken using that account.

The services described here are for University of Manchester Students' Union registered societies only.
All requests must be made from yoursociety@umsu.man.ac.uk to root@umsu.man.ac.uk.
