Passwords
The purpose of a password is to permit your access to the server but exlude anyone who is not authorised.
When choosing a password:
- Do pick something which you can remember
- Do include upper and lower case letters, punctuation marks and spaces
- Do make sure that, if you use Appletalk, your password is eight characters or less
- Do choose short phrases or acronyms
- Do not use dictionary words, your society name or other words that someone else could guess
Changing your password
- Log in to the server on SSH/Telnet with your username and current password
- Type the command: passwd
- You will then be asked to type your new password in twice so you don't
type it in wrongly and then not know what it is
