Better linking

This page describes the pages we request information from, or send users doing specific actions to. All edits can be made using the society edit form linked from your entry in the societies list. It's designed to be read by society webmasters, rather than general committee members. if you don't understand the content, just ignore it, as everything will work fine - these are just optional extras.

Graphics on the front page

If you have a major event coming up, you can contact the Student Activities Officer and ask for it to be put in the rotating slideshow on the front page. You need to provide a graphic. The slideshow itself is sized at 400x255 (width x height) so you may want o bear this in mind when creating the graphic. Larger graphics will be automatically scaled down to the right size (preserving aspect ratio), so providing us with a higher quality original will mean we can (potentially) use it for other thingsam

Reading your RSS feed

If you register your RSS feed with us, we we use it to populate the societies news page (which will become more visible when we have more feeds). We periodically do automatic feed detection from societies, so we might pick it up in a scan of society websites, but you may want to register it directly, especially if the URL to your RSS feed changes.

Online sigups - landing pages

Joining societies online has been a huge success, and, like all things that work fantastically, generated a bit of work for societies as all your new members want to join. You can now provide us with a link which we strongly push each new member to visit immediately after they've filled in the online form on our site. This page can then provide a slightly customised introduction to the society and push them to join your mailing list - as these people are those who have actively joined, rather than those who may be interested.

We send you the email address as the email parameter to that URL. Please note, you must not automatically subscribe them to your list without any confirmation, but you may send the an email confirmation to be added (as we make no assurances the email address they provided belongs to them). The automatic confirmation mail sent by mailman for a list in "confirm subscribe" mode will suffice. To test this, you can use a library card number of simply test which skips the internal processing of the signup.
