Logging In

You can log in to Waldo in various ways:

  • To read mail just log on with your username and password to webmail
  • You can also log in via SSH or Telnet and type 'pine' to access your mail - help is available within email client Pine
  • For terminal login you need a SSH or Telnet client
  • SSH clients allow secure encrypted communications – your password is not sent in a readable format over the network
  • The nicest SSH and Telnet client for Windows is Putty, although Windows Telnet (installed on all Windows machines) will do
  • Putty is installed on all cluster machines as "Secure Shell Client" in the network application menu
  • NiftyTelnet SSH does the trick for the Mac users amongst you
  • Both Putty and NiftyTelnet can be downloaded from Version Tracker
  • You need to connect to host: waldo.umu.man.ac.uk (selecting the ssh option if you are using Putty), and log in with the username and password which you have been given
The services described here are for University of Manchester Students' Union registered societies only. All requests must be made from yoursociety@umsu.man.ac.uk to root@umsu.man.ac.uk.
